  • Maurine West, age 88, of Mount Ida, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2019 in Mount Ida, AR. Maurine was born on January 11, 1931 in Hot Springs, AR. to the late Guy and Doris Hovell Cole. She is preceded in death by both parents, her husband Howard L. West Sr., and her brother and two sisters.
    Survivors: sons: Howard L. West Jr. (Deborah), John West (Pam), daughter: Susie Dempkowski (Richard “Ski”), sister: Beth Gayle, and two grandchildren.
    Services will be held March 15, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Lone Valley Church of God in Sims, AR. Burial will follow at Lone Valley Cemetery in Sims, AR. Arrangements were made under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home of Mount Ida, AR. Guest register at www.thorntonfh.com

    Maurine, I will always love you "Big Sister". You were so good to me all of my growing up years. You were there when needed many times. May The Lord Bless and keep you in his arms. Love to Howard Lee. Donna

    My sister, Maurine, was a kind and loving person. Quick to cook up a fish fry whenever we visited. Even though there was 26 years between us in age, we grew very close in the last few decades. I know that she is having a great reunion with Howard Lee.
